The Ryckman Family in the New World

Jan Janse Ryckman appears to be our first settler in colonial America. Coming from Holland to New Amsterdam by sail sometime between 1660 and 1663. Later he appears to have settled in the Delaware River Territory at the juncture of the Delaware and Schuykill Rivers. Other records show his name was Johannes Ryckman and may have changed it upon settling in the colonies.

Most of this material is pieced together from the efforts of several others who have researched our ancestory to great detail. Unfortunately records are scarce at best prior to the 1900's and sometimes the information just can't seem to be located. In no way do I assume the accuracy of this data and I encourage you to do the same. At times there are conflicting pieces of information and I will try my best to figure out which is more accurate for inclusion here but of course no guarantee's are made.

The numbers prior to each name are to help you follow through the list. For example, my number is 1214164155121 and my fathers is one number shorter (121416415512). Each digit signifies birth order through each generation. Thus the total number of digits shows which generation number the person is in the colonies. My number is thirteen digits long which means I am the 13th generation in the colonies.

Names which are BOLD signify the person was born with the Ryckman name. If the name is not bold then they were born to a father that did not have the Ryckman name, as is the case with female Ryckmans that have children. The woman is listed in bold if she was born a Ryckman although her children are not.

If you have a piece of information you think should be included or a correction that should be made, please feel free to contact me via email at ryckmantree@nevets.net.

NOTE that I have made a link to a new style family tree that I've been working on for over a year. It allows you to expand and close various branches of the tree to get a better picture of generations. In converting the tree to this new format several errors in the old data was discovered and corrected as well as importing more information from other sources. The new format isn't complete yet but is probably easier to work with than the old format anyway.
